Visited on Saturday 07-25-25. The atmosphere was so welcoming and energetic . It was busy but we didn’t have to wait at the time we went. Our server was spectacular. I ordered the fried chicken wing and a breast. It was everything the server said it would be. It was juicy and seasoned to the bone. The greens were good and the Mac n cheese ( 2 days later it was all even better. Daughters got the oxtails ooh baby so so tender and flavorful. Tasted the exact same next day leftover nothing dried out I wish there was a Fixins here in Grand Rapids most definitely a need. I tried to save my leftovers for my husband but couldn’t do it. We will have to take a trip back to the “ D” for him to experience FIXINS. Thank you so much. Much continued success!!🙏🏽♥️🥳🔥🌹

We visited Fixins Soul Kitchen Detroit while in the city over the Thanksgiving holiday, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we sat down, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming—exactly the kind of hospitality you hope for with soul food. The fried chicken and waffles were the standout for me. The chicken was perfectly seasoned with a crisp, golden crust and juicy meat inside, paired beautifully with fluffy waffles that struck the right balance between sweet and savory. Absolute comfort food perfection. The fried deviled eggs were rich and indulgent, with a creamy filling and a crispy exterior that added great texture. The fried catfish bites were light, flaky, and well-seasoned—no heaviness, just clean, soulful flavor. The shrimp and grits were smooth and comforting, with tender shrimp and deeply flavored grits that felt both hearty and refined. The sides were just as impressive. The collard greens were slow-cooked, savory, and full of depth, while the black-eyed peas were tender, earthy, and perfectly seasoned—classic soul food done right. One final note: the hot sauce is incredible and absolutely worth buying to take home. It packs flavor, not just heat. Everything about this visit—from the food to the service—was outstanding. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Detroit. Highly recommend Fixins Soul Kitchen if you’re looking for authentic, elevated soul food done with care and pride.

Ate here for the first time. I ordered the fried fish with hush puppies, charred Okra and cheese grits. The food was delicious! The fish was fried perfectly, with just the right seasonings, crispiness and tender flakiness. I was expecting fried Okra (although menu clearly says charred, I guess that’s what I still expected) but what I got were delicate and delicious charred Okra spears. And the cheese grits were so good. They weren’t the usual creamy grits, they had a heavier texture but it complimented the fish so well. My server came quickly and she was great. I came earlier so I was able to beat the brunch crowd, which allowed me to take these awesome pictures on the wall. I did however make a reservation, but it did not appear people had to wait too long to be seated. I had been wanting to come here for some time and it definitely did not disappoint. Will most certainly be returning.

Finally made it to Fixins Soul Kitchen and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the catfish and fried chicken, and both were cooked perfectly. The catfish was crispy, flaky, and seasoned just right, while the fried chicken was juicy with a delicious crunch. The service was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Great atmosphere, excellent food, and definitely a place I'll visit again the next time I'm in Detroit.

This has been an amazing dinner! My first time in Detroit so I wanted to do soul food which I don’t have in my town. Our server was Kam, she went above and beyond for us. The fried chicken, little appetizers and cocktails were fantastic. They also serve strawberry infused butter, which was phenomenal! Definitely give it a try!
